Mallorca: The favourite island of many celebrities

Mallorca is a real hotspot for celebrities, that is certain. Stars of all categories are to be seen everywhere on the island, especially in the southwest, but also on the east coast and in the south of the island or enjoying the mountains on the west coast. Let’s see which celebrities prefer which area, whether chosen for holidays or to live.

The popular south west

Probably the highest concentration of celebrities is in the southwest of the island and particularly in Port d’Andratx it is not rare to meet a well-known face and celebrities from the music industry and familiar faces from film and TV seem to love the sophisticated port. The singer and pop queen Helene Fischer, for example, has bought a villa near Port d’Andratx together with her friend the folk musician Florian Silbereisen, so that they can enjoy their free time together. Both were seen strolling along the beautiful harbour at the beginning of August.

Sabine Christiansen, a former news reader, has had a house near Andratx for years. The TV presenters Werner Schulze-Erdel, Max Schautzer and Jürgen von der Lippe all have properties in Port d’Andratx. Heino, although he has sold his apartment, still likes to visit the island, preferably Port d’Andratx where he likes to have lunch in the “Club de Vela”, the harbour yacht club.

In the neighbouring village of Camp de Mar, the “Campino” restaurant in Andratx Golf Club is a popular meeting place for celebrities. Model Claudia Schiffer, in spite of trying to sell her property in Camp de Mar for some time, is still seen regularly there. Her neighbour is the German entrepreneur and former Formula 1 manager Willi Weber with whom there is currently a neighborhood dispute about two felled pine trees.

Even “James Bond” actor Pierce Brosnan has already had a holiday in a villa in La Mola near Puerto Andratx. Let’s have a look at Santa Ponsa: German pop star Jürgen Drews opened his cult café “König von Mallorca” here in 2011. TV star Daniela Katzenberger also has a café in Santa Ponsa, the “Cafe Katzenberger” completely decorated in pink, and Dieter Bohlen, normally at home in Cala Ratjada, recently bought an apartment in the port of Santa Ponsa.

Lots happening on the east coast

The east and the northeast are also very popular with celebrities. The advantage of this area for people who are often in the public eye is that they are relatively undisturbed here, and unlike in the south west, can remain unrecognized. It was no wonder that Berlin’s former mayor, Klaus Wowereit has been coming to play in Golf Canyamel for several years. Klaus Wowereit is an avowed fan of the Spanish artist Gustavo, who is very famous in Berlin and lives between Cala Ratjada and Capdepera. Germany’s most famous TV cook, Frank Rosin, who has been a convinced fan of the north-east for many years, regularly goes on holiday with his family to Cala Ratjada and is often a guest in the artist’s studio.

Regina Ziegler, Germany’s most important filmmaker, is a collector of Gustavo and regularly spends time in her second home in the north-eastern Llevante, but exactly where can not be divulged. This also applies to Erwin Müller, the founder of the Müller drugstore chain, who enjoys his life in the countryside around Cala Ratjada.

A great fan of the neighbouring town of Capdepera is the actress Esther Schweins, who lives with her children and her Mallorcan boyfriend on the island. The designer and owner of the clothing company of the same name, Willy Bogner, resides between Artà and Colonia de Sant Pere and the former ski racer describes his Mallorcan house as his most beautiful impulsive purchase. In the north-east, the moderator Sonja Zietlow and the Scottish singer Donovan have their own island domicile.

The football star Toni Kroos is a fan of the southeastern resort of Cala d’Or, like the TV chef Tim Mälzer who commutes between the southeast of Mallorca and Hamburg, and in the very south of the island, in Colonia de Sant Jordi, the German actor Martin Semmelrogge has rented a house with his wife.

In the mountains

Many celebrities feel attracted to the west coast and Mallorcas beautiful mountains. Rock singer Peter Maffay is probably one of the longest-standing and best-integrated Mallorca celebrities, and is also socially engaged on the island.

He operates organic farming on his land near Pollensa, including a farm shop with bakery. The most important thing, however, has been his Foundation, the Fundación Tabaluga for socially vulnerable and traumatized children – every year around 400 children and their carers can take a vacation at Maffay’s Finca Can Sureda in the green hills of Pollensa. The TV show master Frank Elstner also owns a property there, as does fashion designer Guido Maria Kretschmar whose finca is situated between Pollensa and Port d ‘Alcúdia.

Amongst the celebrities with real estate in Sóller are the Scottish singer Annie Lennox and the singer Herbert Grönemeyer, and the British composer Andrew Lloyd-Webber likes the mountain ambience so much that he owns several properties in Deià.

Palma, its surroundings and the inland of the island

Naturally, Palma and its surrounding area are also very popular. The actress Sonja Kirchberger has chosen

the capital as her focus and has been running the Can Punta restaurant in El Molinar since 2014. In addition the former referee and ZDF commentator Urs Meier, professional swimmer Franziska von Almsick and star hairdresser Udo Walz all have a second residence on the island and hit-singer Wolfgang Petry spends the winter in the noble suburb of Son Vida. Also living outside the centre of town are the former professional tennis player Carl Uwe Steeb, and the “Melitta-man” Egon Wellenbrink who, in the winter, sometimes participates in small musical jam sessions at the Club de Mar.

A new addition to the island is actor Til Schweiger, who bought the former estate of Ursula Karven in Establiments when she moved from Mallorca to Berlin a few years ago. One of the oldest celebrities on Mallorca, on the other hand, is the retired Berlin tenor René Kollo, who often spends time in his house in Santa Maria del Cami.

There are surely some celebrities on the island who are “hiding” to enjoy the peace and quiet or to simply mix anonymously with the crowd. Whatever part of the island you prefer, keep your eyes open and maybe you’ll discover a familiar face!
