Information about Cas Concos in Mallorca

The village Cas Concos des Cavaller is half way between Santanyí and Felanitx in the southern part of the island. Only five kilometres away from Felanitx, it belongs to the community of the same name. The green, slightly hilly landscape reminds a bit of the Toscana.

In soft, green hills – and in the best company

The village itself is small with only around 1.200 inhabitants. Its name comes from the Obrador Conco family, who had a big country estate here. The village street is mainly built chequered. The centre consists of the church square and the church Església de Sant Nicolau with two tall palm trees and the main street Carrer Metge Obrador.

On the first sight, you could think that Cas Concos is rather inconspicuous because it is so small. But in comparison to its size, a lot is happening here: there is a vivid restaurant and bar scene with about thousands of pubs, wine houses, and even a small art scene thanks to artists and galleries living here.

Of course, there are also the basic facilities of a village like a bakery, supermarket, doctor, pharmacist, hair dresser, carpenter and a car repair shop. Since last year there is even a small hotel: the Can Mel Petit Hotel offers four double rooms, but only for adults.

Popular for hanseatics

A wealthy, mainly German audience is contributing to the rather exclusive reputation of Cas Concos and its surrounding. There are many northern Germans, who have villas and housings in the surrounding hills. The triangle, which is made by the villages Cas Concos, S’Alqueria Blanca and Es Carritxó is also called the “Hamburg Hill”, because there are many people from Hamburg – underneath them many industrials and large scale manufacturers for example from the fashion industry like Peek & Cloppenburg and Tom Tailor.

But also the Hamburger shipping family Rickmers makes holidays here, as well as the Hamburger millionaire and art collector Thomas Wegner, who resides in the green hills.

Outstanding Gastronomy

The exquisite audience appreciates the good restaurants on-site. Known by many is the Viena: for many years, an institution in the village for the whole region. Many say that you get here the most delicious Wiener Schnitzel on the island. On the walls there is interesting art, no wonder: the former Hamburger owner and gastronomist was by himself an art collector, and decorated the interior equipment accordingly tasteful– with an elegant understatement. A few years ago, the Italian Franco Maiorano took over the restaurant as it was without changing anything.

Also run by a Catalan is La Tasca, which offers a very good kitchen as well. Also recommendable is the Oveja Negra: the “black sheep”, which is a nice corner bar with a German host and a nice bistro. Here, you can take a seat on the bench full of colourful pillows in front of the restaurant, while enjoying some delicious tapas (very good is for example the Indian bread with black olive paste). Opposite, there is a big black and white photography on the house wall. Details, which show: Cas Concos has a heart for art and culture.

A village with art

Cas Concos and its surrounding is famous for the fact that some artists are living and working close by. Among, there are artists like Italian Fabrizio Plessi, the Austrian painter Peter Marquant, the from Madrid originating artist Manuel Bragado and since last year the Austrian artist Erich Schobesberger, who just opened last year his atelier.

In the centre of Cas Concos, you find the gallery Empire Art Contemporani by the German gallerist Yvonne Massman, who moved here from Palma. Here, you can buy interesting, partially very big sculptures for the garden. Clients come from Santanyí and the surrounding fincas, partly even from Palma!

A good mixture

But there are still some „traditional majorcan“ things to find: the village inhabitants love to play dart at the Es Cassino, which has a very comfortable courtyard. And the old men are sitting in the morning at the nameless village bar, diagonally from the church with a rustic ambience and a proud trophy collection. Also the baker Forn Marga still bakes in a traditional way. On Sundays, the weekly market takes places and the summer festivals in honour of the saint of the village Sant Nicolau, are always around the 10th of September.

The surrounding around Cas Concos is without doubt a high-grade and famous corner of Majorca. The small town is also a good starting point, to visit the nice villages like Santanyí, Felanitx or Cala d’Or and the wonderful beaches of the southeast. Here you are spoilt of choices, which ones of the nice bays to visit. Also cyclists see Can Concos as a good spot for the beginning or meeting point of a tour. The golf course of Vall d’Or is easy to reach by car.
