At eight o’ clock, when the first rays of sunshine light up the horizon, Mallorca still slumbers. The streets, squares and beach promenades on the wide bays of the island unhurriedly come to life – in Mallorca the clocks tick just a little differently, sighs Marianne Seitz happily. It is not as hectic as at home and the winters are not as cold. Ever since the enthusiastic visitor to Mallorca has spent her winter holidays<\/a> on a finca under the Mallorcan sun, she feels good all year round. At last she knows how beautiful life can be, she is inspired, takes a deep breath, and the salty ocean air gives her an appetite.<\/p>\n

Helmut Thieme also had no desire to spend the winter scratching ice from windows. Rather leave
\nthe ice behind he says, winking. Get away from Germany, definitely not forever but also not just for
\na weekend trip. Much longer, a long-term vacation<\/strong>. Since his heart attack he wants to tackle
\neverything more quietly and enjoy life to the fullest … in Mallorca.
\nMallorca has developed into one of the most popular emigration destinations of the Germans in
\nrecent decades and the Balearic island is also a popular destination for older people, both for
\nholidays and also as retirement homes. Whether in traditional fincas<\/a>, Mallorcan village houses<\/a> or in
\nluxury villas<\/a>, Mallorca has something for everyone.
\nThe advantages of Mallorca are obvious – there are regular and cheap flights<\/strong> between Palma de
\nMallorca and all major German airports and the short flight time of just over two hours makes
\ntravelling to Mallorca all the more attractive. Even for older passengers the journey to Mallorca is
\ncompletely unproblematic and the flight staff is friendly and helpful and speaks good German, even
\nin the Mallorcan airport.<\/p>\n

\nafternoon. Max, a lively Labrador puppy, is begging for a treat. I always thought I’d leave Max
\nbehind, she says, but as smaller animals are allowed to travel with most airlines beloved pets<\/strong> are no obstacle for commuting between Germany and Mallorca and animals weighing up to eight
\nkilograms are even allowed in the cabin.
\nHelmut Thieme and his wife used to have pets but nowadays they want more time for themselves,
\nto stroll along the beach promenade, go hiking in the nearby Tramuntana mountains<\/strong> or ambitiously
\nplay golf and, as is the case with good cuisine and fine wines, there is no lack of golf courses<\/strong> on
\nMallorca.
