Sleepy bays, long beaches, little villages, flat countryside and consistently good weather \u2013 the south of Mallorca is exactly right for all those sun worshippers in need of rest and relaxation.<\/p>\n

One can enjoy enchanting views until Palma from the cliffs of Bahia Grande<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Diverse, varied and especially beautiful – in the south of Mallorca the sea seems a little bluer and the sun seems to shine a bit longer. The fact is that it shines on the spectacular beaches<\/strong> an average of ten hours a day, and in July and August the 30-degree mark is passed regularly. The land is flat and the interior country side is characterized by fields, almond tree plantations and agriculture. The coastline is formed by imposing cliffs<\/strong> and towards the south by long beaches in between small, romantic bays.<\/p>\n

On the coastal cliffs or in quiet villages<\/h2>\n

The settlements of Sa Torre<\/strong>, Son Veri Nou<\/strong>, Puig de R\u00f3s<\/strong>, Bahia Azul<\/strong> and Bahia Grande<\/strong>, Maioris<\/strong>, Las Palmeras<\/strong>, Tolleric<\/strong> and Vallgornera<\/strong> are situated on the steep coast and those who choose them will find a lot of enjoyment, peace and tranquility.<\/p>\n

Tranquility, spectacular views over the bay of Palma and the proximity to the golf courses Maioris Golf<\/strong> and Son Antem I and II<\/strong> (both with very good golf schools) are everything one needs during his holidays.<\/p>\n

Amongst the villages in the countryside are some of the sleepiest towns of all – in Algaida<\/strong> and the tiny villages Pina<\/strong> and Randa<\/strong> the clocks tick more slowly and those who love the leisurely, typical Majorcan village life are here in the right place. Randa, for example, is on the monastery mountain of the same name which is Majorcas only table mountain. There are three monasteries of which one can be visited, and the monastery cafe is a very nice place to have a coffee. The museum and the chapel can also be explored, or by taking a short walk panoramic views of the island can be enjoyed.<\/p>\n

A lot of peace in the surrounding countryside<\/h2>\n

The area surrounding Algaida and Llucmajor is very sparsely populated and is ideal for hikers and ramblers who will find themselves alone on quiet, country paths all year round. The village of Algaida is well known amongst golfers for one of the most beautiful and modern golf courses on the island<\/strong> – the greens of Son Gual. The village is, however, also famous for its good traditional cuisine and thanks to its numerous restaurants well worth a culinary visit. The restaurant Cal Dimoni (“the devil”) is without a doubt one of the most rustic taverns, where lamb chops are roasted on an open fire.<\/p>\n

Llucmajor, the largest town in the area, is very traditional and three times a week an authentic Majorcan market<\/strong> takes place in the streets and alleys, offering the best products the island has to offer. Around the remarkably large town square with its beautiful old buildings are numerous cafes and restaurants with their tables and chairs standing in the traffic-free square, from where village life can be followed perfectly. Llucmajor is also not lacking any kind of shops, especially nice boutiques.<\/p>\n

The loveliest beaches<\/h2>\n

The beaches in the south are varied – the most well-known beach in Mallorca, the famous Playa de Palma<\/strong> is in the south and those who spend their holiday there love the vibrancy and nightlife. Apart from that, an advantage is definitely the proximity to Palma and to the airport (this also applies to the two villages S’Aranjassa and Sant Jordi).<\/p>\n

Along the steep coast there are small bathing bays: Cala Blava<\/strong>, for example, is popular amongst local people. One of the most spectacular bays on the south coast is Cala Pi<\/strong>, its water stretches deep into the interior like a fjord. A lot of steps lead down to the small sandy beach and one of the most romantic bays on the whole island.<\/p>\n

Further to the south in S’ Estanyol there are no sandy beaches, but instead restaurants close to the water. Children love to dive into the sea from the 1-metre board before enjoying an ice cream from the shop opposite of the beach. The coastal village of Sa Rapita<\/strong> has a great sports and sailing marina, and here is also the first long sandy beach of many located for which the southern tip of Majorca is well known. Located between Ses Corvetes and Colonia de Sant Jordi, the most famous 3.5 km long natural beach Es Trenc<\/strong> can be found. The water is wonderfully flat, shallow and of a soft turquoise-blue color and behind it, there is nothing but dunes, sand thistles and pine trees. At the beginning of the beach, at Ses Corvetes, families can play, but after about one kilometer, a long section for nudists can be found.<\/p>\n
